Which PDF/A should I choose?
PDF/A-2b is the most widely accepted and allows modern features like transparency. PDF/A-1b is the oldest and strictest; pages that use transparency become pictures. PDF/A-3b is like 2b but can contain attached files, which is what e-invoices such as ZUGFeRD and Factur-X use.
The "b" level means the pages will look the same in the future. For strict checks, archives often run a validator such as veraPDF; this tool fixes the common problems, but very unusual PDFs may still need attention.
Tip: Got a scanned PDF? Run OCR PDF first so the archived copy is searchable.
