Why prepare a PDF instead of uploading it?
AI tools read PDFs as raw text, and repeated headers, page numbers and broken lines waste their context and confuse answers. Clean Markdown is shorter and clearer.
For search over many documents (RAG), text is split into chunks that are embedded and searched. Chunks of 300 to 1,200 tokens with a little overlap work well, and page numbers let answers cite their source.
Tip: Tokens are estimated as 4 characters each, close to how most AI models count English text.
