How the tilt is measured
Lines of text are the most reliable clue: when a page is straight, the dark pixels of each line fall into neat horizontal bands. The tool tries small angles and keeps the one where the bands are sharpest.
It works best on text pages. Pages that are mostly photos or drawings may not have a clear angle and are left alone.
Tip: Straighten before OCR: recognition is more accurate on straight pages.
